Dear Michael,
The knife you built for me is performing just as I expected it would, even on thick hide which is 2" thick. In fact I have been asked if I would be willing to sell it and have taken to hiding it after I am done working with it. I am really pleased at how it holds its edge even on tough walrus hide.
Sincerely yours,

Dear Sir:
I would like to thank you for the skinning knife which you made me a few years ago. I especially appreciate your thoughtfulness in helping me with the design and also in changing some of the design features as the work progressed. The result is a handsome, well-fitting and quite useful knife.
As soon as I go the knife in the fall, I used it on a hunting trip and was able to gut, skin and quarter 3 bull moose. The next September I used it on one bull caribou, and a bull moose in December. In January, it helped me with 2 brown bears and still did not need sharpening. I must say, I am quite impressed. The Miller skinner was with me on all of these trips and saw plenty of action.
In October after a bear I shot on Unimak Island required a lot of fleshing, scraping and slicing, the blade finally became a little bit dull. This is more than acceptable service considering the conditions.
As the designated gutter and skinner in my hunting camp, I have the need for a knife that will stay sharp and get the job done. You have provided me with such a tool, and I thank you very much. Especially during the winter months, a sharp knife is essential to get the job done and get it done quick while there is still some light out. Your knife has become an essential tool for me, one I can use without fuss or hassle. Thank you for your superb craftsmanship..

Bowies were plentiful at Sunday's knife show. A big one occupied center spot at the table of Mike and Mary Anne Miller. Mike, an Alascom technician in real life, looked the part of a knifemaker at the show: big, bearded, balding and wearing a leather apron. The Bowie had an 8-nch blade that flared out from the handle, then swooped down to the point. The result was more or less the profile as a humpy salmon in spawn.
Miller had it marked at $250.00, and it was already sold. It was still on display because he specializes in custom orders and had already gotten other orders like it. According to him, people actually take $250.00 knives out in the woods and use them.
"A guy who wants that, wants to carry it. There's a fascination with these big knives." Miller said. "It's macho-ism, I guess. I just make them because people like them.
